Is Your Website Easy to Scan?

Sure you want your website to look professional and “pretty”, but is it easy to read? People do not read… they scan. Hence the question – Is your website easy to scan?

Use headlines to separate different points or sections of information. This allows visitors to quickly find what is of interest to them. When possible, use bullet points to get your message across, using fewer words then a paragraph would take. If you must have long paragraphs, use small pictures or graphics to break up them up.

Black text against a white background may seem boring, but it is very readable. Using colors from different ends of the spectrum will make a website easy on the eyes and your message to pop. Avoid using bright background colors and background images.

Simple fonts may be boring, but they are easy to read. The fancier the font, the harder it is to read. You don’t need to attract people with your site… they are already there! But you do need to keep them there, so make sure that they can read what you have to offer.

Now for the scary part – take a look at your own website and be a “visitor”… would you stay?
